Our student bloggers are engaged in a number of transformative experiences throughout their time abroad. With a combination of academic, personal, and professional experiences, our students are learning in a variety of settings. Here is a roundup of just a fraction of the incredible things that this semester’s student bloggers had the opportunity to do last month.

1: Complete research with refugees in London

Refugee ResearchAlyssa, a student blogger on the Pre-Health Semester Program in London, joined one of her instructors in a research project concerning refugee doctors and their ability to practice in the UK. In her blog post, she explained that she is responsible for gathering information to use for grant proposals and government measures. This opportunity has also allowed her to meet with professionals from refugee organizations all over London.

2: Take a weekend trip to Morocco

Trip to MoroccoArcadia in Barcelona student blogger Kelsey enjoyed Moroccan history and architecture for a weekend excursion. In her blog post about the trip, she detailed her experiences in Moroccan markets and a local hammam, as well as her camel ride and a homestay in a Moroccan village.

 

3: Learn South African lingo

South African LingoMikayla, a student blogger at the University of Cape Town, wrote in a blog post that part of her acclimation process to South Africa included learning a great deal of South African slang. She is now prepared to use Afrikaans slang like “lekker” and abbreviations like “air con” with her new friends and classmates.

  

4: Settle into Havana

Havana ArchitectureUniversity of Havana student blogger Aaron wrote a blog post in English and Spanish about his surprisingly seamless adjustment to life in Cuba. He is enjoying his time distancing himself from excessive technology, bonding with his new housemates, and exploring the city of Havana from bookshops to restaurants.

5: Begin an internship in Edinburgh

Internship RoutineJordan, a student blogger on the Edinburgh Internship Program, detailed her weekly schedule in a blog post last month. For half of the week, she takes courses at Edinburgh Napier University, and for the other half, she completes an internship at a bakery called Breadshare. Jordan works on a variety of multimedia projects for the company, which aims to promote the use of organic and locally-grown ingredients.
