The College of Global Studies was represented on the occasion of the 290th anniversary of the foundation of the University of Havana. Dr Jaume Gelabert attended the Colloquium, on behalf of Lorna Stern, Executive Director of The College, in which Presidents, Rectors, and Directors of Study Abroad programs working with the University of Havana, congratulated the governing body of the University.
The event was presented by the Rector of the University, Dr. Gustavo Cobreiro, the Head of International Relations, the dean of the Faculty of Economy, the dean of the School of Arts and Letters and the Dean of the School of Philosophy and History, in representation of the 16 Schools comprised in the University.
The event started with a remarkable institutional video that showcased the University and its colleges:
After the video there was a presentation about the increased international presence at the university of Havana and its stronger collaboration with universities all over the world, but particularly in Latin America, Europe and Asia. There were representatives from Universidad de Guayaquil, Universidad de Manabí (Ecuador), Universidad de Alicante, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universidad de las Islas Baleares (Spain), University of Leipzig, Humboldt University (Germany), and Rutgers University, Arcadia University, University of Massachusetts and Harvard University (USA), among many others.
Dr Cobreiro conveyed a clear message of internationalization and how the exchange of ideas and scientific projects is at the core of higher education. Among the representatives of the American universities with which the University of Havana collaborates, there was the clear intention of working towards increasing collaboration despite the uncertain political climate between the USA and Cuba.
It was fantastic opportunity for interacting with Cuban and international colleagues!
