The College of Global Studies’ Global Scholar Award for 2014 has been awarded to Cynthia Horvilleur of Villanova University. Cynthia studied with us on the Arcadia in Rome program for Fall 2014. She was a diligent and invested student, maintaining a busy job placement in the media office of the Vatican as well as successfully managing her coursework. In addition to her academic schedule and her job, she also took part in an array of co-curricular events, including pranzo a casa tua, futbol, tutoring, and community service, and pursued the Co-Curricular Learning Certificate. Additionally, she compiled an incredible video showcasing her experience abroad.
Most impressive was the way with which Cynthia embraced everything about her experience abroad, including those things which might be seen as unsettling. She was wise enough to understand the purpose in becoming unsettled, to trust the process of exploration, and to abandon herself in the experience. The end result is clearly visible in the caliber of work presented as well as in the film she sent to us once at home.
The Global Scholar Award is presented to a student who has participated on an education abroad program of The College of Global Studies, and it is in recognition of outstanding student achievement in international education.
