Arcadia rising junior Mike Sposito, a men’s soccer player currently on the Public Health Through Mobile Clinics program in South Africa, has taken time to write about his fascinating experiences abroad this summer for the University’s Athletics department.
The Program is a unique opportunity to work directly with South African medical professionals and patients alike. In partnership with SHAWCO, a student run Non-Governmental Organization based at the University of Cape Town, students travel to communities in need to take vital signs and administer health screenings.
By the second week, Mike was already gaining valuable perspectives. “The doctor we work with explains the basis of his/her diagnosis… This personalized way of interacting with doctors and patients has really helped me gain a greater aspect of what it is like working in the medical field.”
His full remarks can be found at Arcadia’s Athletics news.
