On October 13th, Arcadia Resident Director in Cuba Angelica Salazar hosted a live webinar to share Arcadia’s approach to programming in Havana and our partnership with CEHSEU at University of Havana.

In the webinar, Angelica shared a bit about herself and how she supports and helps students engage with their surroundings, Cuban organizations and their community. She also brought to life Cuba’s rich history, culture, and the energetic and welcoming Cuban people that make Havana an ideal study abroad destination for the kind of experience that will deeply engage students around questions of race, class, political and economic systems, music, and so much more.

Joined by Shannon Peak Bernardo, Assistant Director of Student Services and Maureen Gordon, Director of Health Safety & Security, the webinar also addressed:

  • Student support and services pre-departure, through orientation and beyond
  • Arcadia’s Vedado neighborhood housing
  • Health, safety and security in Cuba
  • Co-Curricular activities, excursions and exchanges
  • Arcadia’s network of Cuban educational and cultural specialists

The webinar makes for a lively and informative discussion with engagement from students, advisors and the Arcadia team. If you couldn't watch it live, we have made a recording of it for you. You may also access the presentation slides used in the webinar.

Arcadia hosts Embassy of Cuba

Arcadia University and The College of Global Studies hosted the Embassy of Cuba Secretaries Miguel Fraga and Silvia Martinez on November 15. Angelica Salazar, our Resident Director in Havana, made the most of our time with the Cuban dignitaries and meetings were set up with President Nair, then a keynote address to the Arcadia community in honor of International Education week along with dinner and breakfast discussions The College staff and faculty. It is wonderful to note that our Cuban partners are very twitter friendly and are happy to share program news.
