Congratulations to Taylor Maruno, a Pacific Lutheran University student who received the Diversity Abroad % University of Auckland scholarship to study abroad with us in New Zealand. In order to earn the award, Taylor had to write a creative essay and include photos in her application, and her work impressed those making the decision.
We reached out to Taylor to ask about the award and her upcoming semester, and she had the following to say: "This coming spring, I'm super excited to be studying away in New Zealand at the University of Auckland! Studying abroad is a great privilege and a lifetime experience that I'm grateful to have the opportunity to take part in. I think it's very important for us, especially in a world that's becoming increasingly divided by conflict and disagreement, to widen our perspectives and share our cultures.
Diversity Abroad gave me the chance to share some of the goals I have for my time abroad, one of which is to learn about the identities of the people I meet. By understanding and connecting with others from different backgrounds, we can grow as a society and make more open-minded and conscious decisions.
I can keep the pieces of those I meet with me and maybe some of the pieces of who I am will stick with them as well. Thanks to Arcadia and the Diversity Abroad and University of Auckland Scholarship, I am a giant step closer to accomplishing this goal, one that I hope other students will strive to work towards too."
