The Scholar Award for 2015 has been awarded to DeAnna Smith, a sociology major and Brady Scholar from Northwestern University. DeAnna studied with us in Spring 2015, attending Goldsmiths, University of London. Not only did she achieve outstanding academic results on her program but she pursued her interests in understanding the black British experience and the Romany or Traveller sub-culture in the U.K.

Alison LaLond Wyant, Assistant Dean for Experiential Education at The College commented: "DeAnna's story couldn't better exemplify all that I'd hope for our students abroad. She seized the opportunity to develop her understanding of issues that matter to her - both within and beyond the traditional classroom - and I'm delighted that the result was both outstanding academic achievement and meaningful personal development."

Dr. Peter Leuner, Regional Director for UK and Ireland Programs, was delighted that DeAnna’s impressive efforts while in London have been recognised, commenting: “DeAnna is an excellent example of how learning abroad, grasped with both hands and combining an academic focus, an awareness of/engagement with local environments and tapping into local resources can lead to an outstanding result - clearly deserving of Global Scholar recognition.”

The Global Scholar Award is presented to a student who has participated on an education abroad program through Arcadia, in recognition of outstanding student achievement in international education.
