Emeritus Professor Alan Mackay-Sim of Griffith University had the honor of being named the 2017 Australian of the Year by the National Australia Day Council. Griffith is a strong partner institution of The College of Global Studies, and has several campuses throughout Australia.
Mackay-Sim has spent his career researching how nerve cells in the nose regenerate, and pioneered a way to safely apply that same regenerative process to damaged spinal cords.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to talk about the importance of research on spinal cord injury and brain diseases” Professor Mackay-Sim said in his acceptance speech. Griffith has the full story on their website.
