Dr. Laurence Scott, lecturer in literature and creative writing at the Arcadia London Center, will be on campus to present: Study Abroad in the Age of the Digital Human on Tuesday April 22nd at The College of Global Studies.
Dr. Scott explores the impact of digital media on the study abroad student’s experience. He asks pertinent questions that impact the essence of international education:
With video-call platforms such as Face Time and Skype, as well as the international texting capability of Whatsapp, are students today fully able to be ‘abroad'? With ‘here’ and ‘there’ so closely and constantly connected by modern communications technology, what is lost and gained for students leaving their home campuses for new adventures? And should study-abroad centres adjust both their pastoral care and their pedagogy in the glowing blue light of these innovations?
Dr. Scott is visiting Arcadia University campus in Glenside from April 21-23. His presentation is on Tuesday April 22nd at 4pm in the Main Conference Room, The College of Global Studies, Larsen Hall, 1601 Church Road.
Dr. Scott’s first book, The Four-Dimensional Human, will be published by William Heinemann in 2015.
