Summer 2020 will see the launch of Intern Philly, an exciting new internship program from The College of Global Studies which brings all the hallmarks of an Arcadia Abroad experience home to Philadelphia. Following the successful model of our internship programs abroad, Intern Philly emphasizes ‘place’ as a core component of the educational experience integrating applied learning with a practical approach to addressing global interests and cross-cultural complexities.
Intern Philly maximizes student learning by focusing on high-impact educational pedagogies and practical experience. This community of learners will undertake internship placements and coursework in Center City Philadelphia within a framework that encourages them to reflect on their learning through the varied experience of working and living in the sixth largest city in the U.S. This multifaceted program fosters the students’ ability to develop the independence and resilience that is so critical for success in careers and in life.
According to Dr. Andrew Law, dean of the College of Global Studies, “Intern Philly aligns with The College’s Hallmarks of Teaching and Learning that frame our program development and operation abroad. From offering curricular options that dovetail with a student’s degree path to including student-learning experiences that are grounded in host communities and attending to student development, Intern Philly is a domestic reflection of the thoughtful pedagogical work we do abroad.”
Students will also benefit from Arcadia’s expertise with advising them through the application process, preparing them before they arrive, and supporting their health, safety and wellbeing while on the program.
