Arcadia is delighted to launch a new program spanning both Australia and New Zealand: The Ecology of People, Place and Adventure

This is an action packed, five week long field studies program, where you experience your own relationship with people, place and adventure - from hiking up to a glacier in the New Zealand Southern Alps, soaking in a geothermal stream, taking part in a Maori war dance, snorkeling Great Barrier Reef, squelching through tropical Australian rainforest, visiting Aboriginal rock art, floating down a river looking for crocodiles, and sleeping under the stars in the Australian outback.

And throughout it all we have you reflecting/questioning the biological, sociological, economic and political processes influencing these experiences and opportunities, culminating in much thought and discussion around what true positive environmental action can look like. While learning about the ecology of people place and adventure  you will also learn a lot about yourself!

Assessment is in the form of a 20 minute presentation on location on a topic of your choice, a daily journal, and a 5000 word essay.

Please note that this is a course only suitable for people of moderate fitness - some days you will hike for four or five hours with a backpack. The course begins in winter conditions in New Zealand and ends in tropical heat in Australia. Maximum of 20 students.
