Students studying with Arcadia in Sicily wrapped up their orientation, known as Thresholds, with a number of quintessentially Sicilian activities involving staff, faculty and students.
Tina Rocchio, Arcadia’s Resident Director for Italy Programs, recalls the final day of Thresholds: "The day began with a walking tour of the itinerant museum of days gone by in Buscemi, where students learned about the traditions of wine and pasta making stretching back a millennia in the tiny village."
Afterward, they moved onto nearby Buccheri in the Hyblean mountains for an outdoor feast of traditional Sicilian foods, followed by a presentation and discussion of what to expect in terms of the Co-Curricular Learning Certificates and other extra-curricular activities that are available to them.
And, to cap off a successful final day of a successful orientation, the staff and students alike tested their agility and courage, trust and leadership on the adventure park rigs and pulleys.
In addition to acquainting participants with the local culture and customs, orientation is also a time for getting to know fellow students and Arcadia staff, discuss health and safety and come to feeling of confidence for the adventure ahead.
