This weekend Arcadia are running a trip that will take students under the streets of London. Not on the tube but into the Churchill War Rooms. The bunker below the center of London is what protected Winston Churchill and his government during World War 2. Now the public can explore the space that was so important to the war efforts.

The maze of rooms that made up the bunker where plans, strategies and plots were drawn up are part of living history. From the scratched chair where Winston Churchill presided at meetings to Churchill's office-bedroom. Even now there is a feeling of tension. We can only imagine what the atmosphere was like. The museum certainly helps to bring this alive.

‘Enjoy is not really the word. One was completely inspired when working with him, and one felt that one was in the center of everything and exceedingly privileged to be there. I was not the only one, but I’m speaking now as a person; I personally would have done anything I could for him. That mustn't be misunderstood; Mr Churchill was someone who drew our complete respect, as I’ve said.’

The Churchill War Rooms museum relies heavily on real life stories told through oral histories, film interviews and personal items. This allows us to get a feel for the people that helped win the war, behind the scenes as such. There is a certain connection gained when you read about one persons experience.
