You've made it! You're now living in London and have access to Europe like never before. Paris, Barcelona, Prague... the world is your oyster and there's no better time to travel! But before you get out those credit cards and book your flights, heed our advice on how to see the most for the least amount of money.

FLIGHTS Don't have to cost a fortune

Check out sites such as EasyJet and RyanAir, where you can find some great deals, but make sure you’re following their travel restrictions (i.e. size of carry-on). Also, take advantage of websites/apps like Opodo and Skyscanner that search dozens of websites to find you the best available deals. Keep in mind that if you’re searching for flights online, it’s best to use a private browser. Flight booking sites use cookies to track visitor behaviour and if you've been checking the same airfare repeatedly, they may show you a higher fare with the idea that the jump in price might persuade you to make the purchase right away before it rises again.

DON't FORGET ABOUT THE UK!

Keep in mind that you have all of London on your doorstep, with many free sights to see in walking distance. Take a look at Londonist, Time Out and sign up for their weekly emails of events and happenings in London. Many museums like the Museum of London, Natural History Museum, Imperial War Museum and galleries in London are free and open in the evenings.

And don't forget about the rest of England, Wales and Scotland, which all have so much to offer and are easily accessible by train and bus. Here are some of the best places to visit throughout the UK:

• If you’re itching to see the coast, travel to Brighton (often called ‘London by the sea’), Cornwall, or Wales.
• Visit the mysterious neolithic circles of Stonehenge.
• Head north to Scotland to stay in beautiful and historic Edinburgh. While you’re there, set aside a morning to climb Arthur’s Seat - there is truly no better view of the city.
• In need of  some green space? There are plenty of national parks such as the Lake District,Snowdonia, the Peak District and Dartmoor.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF Travel cards

As a student, or ‘young person,’ you have the luxury of enjoying discounted rates on road, rail, and air travel! For example, with the 16-25 Railcard you save 30% on all trains throughout the UK. While there’s usually a charge for the travel cards, they end up paying for themselves with your first booking so even if you only use it once, it’s worth it.

Remember to book in advance and off peak train times or book directly with some rail companies (i.e. Virgin Rail with Best Fare Finder) to avoid credit card charges on your booking. You can also get an ISIC card for cheaper international travel.

• City Mapper: This brilliant app tells you the best way to get around, on all modes of transport. It even tells you how much each journey costs so you can keep an eye on your budget. This app is so good, several of the London Center staff swear by it. 
• Moovit: Similar to CityMapper, this app is a journey planner app but can be used across the UK.
