If you are not going on the Wales trip this weekend, don’t fret! There is still plenty of fun to be had, and today we are going to focus on  National Student Pride. The event has moved the short distance from Brighton to London for 2014, and it is specifically catered for LGBT students. But everyone is welcome and there are a range of tickets, the most expensive costing £5 and the cheapest being FREE. You can purchase tickets here.

So what can you expect from this event?

FRIDAY

Things kick off with a film screening at the Channel 4 studios. Did you know that there is a new bill in Uganda threatening to make homosexuality punishable by death? David Kato, Uganda’s first openly gay man, is working against this bill despite the persecution he faces every day of his life.

This screening is followed by the chance to mix and mingle with others. This is a perfect opportunity for students to meet other Brits and to learn about the culture here, specifically our LGBT culture.

SATURDAY

The University of Westminster hosts the free daytime festival that takes place between 12.30 and 5pm. There is a TON to see and do throughout the day. There is a debate going on with Attitude Magazine. There is the Great Student Bake Off hosted by Comedian Zoe Lyons and judged by John Whaite, the winner of 2012’s Great British Bake Off (We love our cakes, okay?). You can also check out Evan Davis’ conversation with Paris Lees, a Trans activist who is No.1 in Independent on Sundays 2013 Pink List.

This is just scratching the surface of Saturday's festival. There is plenty to fill your time.

SUNDAY

After Saturday’s exertions everyone will be worn out. So take yourself along to the Prince Charles Cinema at 1pm for ‘Sing Along Rocky Horror Show’. Tickets are just £3 and it will be the perfect way to end the weekend, surrounded by other people that have had just as much fun as you have.

National Student Pride is a fantastic event full of fun and enlightening activities. Here’s your chance to meet Brits and to learn something in the process.
