Glasgow Comic Con: 4-5 July, Various Venues and Times

Indulge your love of all things graphic at this fiesta of films, comics and fandoms. There's also book dealers, toy sellers, indie comic publishers and comic creators – everything your comic-loving heart desires.

Unfix: 10-12 July, CCA

A new festival of performance art that mixes live art, films, workshops and installations that centre around a central theme: ecology.

Art on the Exchange: 4-5 and 25-26 July, Royal Exchange Square

Artists and performers – including in visual art, street theatre and music – show off their talent in Royal Exchange Square. Presented by Art on Scotland.

The Ballet of the Palette: Throughout July, Gallery of Modern Art

Twentieth-century paintings from the gallery collection, selected by contemporary artists Neil Clements, Lotte Gertz, Charlie Hammond, Louise Hopkins, Merlin James, Victoria Morton, Carol Rhodes, Tony Swain, Hanneline Visnes and George Ziffo.

Duncan Shanks: The Poetry of Place: Throughout July, Hunterian Museum & Art Gallery

Distinguished landscape artist Shanks has bequeathed to the Hunterian his entire collection of sketchbooks from the past 45 years, which amount to more than 100 volumes. The collection has been catalogued, and here a selection from them is on display.

Music, Comedy and Dance

Glasgow Jazz Festival: Throughout July, Various Venues and Times

The Glasgow Jazz Festival has hosted some of the biggest names in jazz, blues, soul, funk, R&B and world music, from Miles Davis, Sarah Vaughan, Elvin Jones and Pat Metheny to Tony Bennett, Buddy Guy, Pee Wee Ellis and Tito Puente. With major concerts, a late night jazz club, film screenings and talks, it's one of the biggest events in the Scottish jazz calendar. The 2015 festival has appearances from Gladys Knight; Nettwork Trio (featuring Charnett Moffett and Stanley Jordan); bossa nova legend Marcos Valle; Eddi Reader with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra; trad jazz from the Nova Scotia Jazz Band; free improv from the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra; The Family Stone (yes, them) and all stops in between.

The Young'uns: 7 July, The Admiral, 7:30pm

Beguiling audiences with humour, bold vocals, gripping storylines and innate musicality plus a growing reputation in the folk world for sublime a cappella harmonies.

BBC SSO: The Sound of Hitchcock: 25 July, City Halls, 6pm

The (original) Hitch employed many of Hollywood's greatest composers and this concert celebrates their contributions to his work, with music from Franz Waxman, Dmitri Tiomkin, Miklós Rózsa and Bernard Herrmann. Matthew Sweet presents, Timothy Brock conducts.

Music hall show commemorating the centenary of the outbreak of WWI.

Carrie's Dance Company: 5 July, SECC, 7pm

Modern dance troupe perform their new show Bat Out Of Hell.

Merchant City Festival: Beginning 25 July, Various Venues and Times

Now in its 14th year, the Merchant City Festival returns for an annual takeover of Glasgow’s cultural quarter. Normally serene boulevards and swanky bars are transformed into bustling markets with stalls selling artworks, handmade crafts and vintage clothing as well as stands dedicated to foodie delights.
