Barceloneta (little Barcelona in Catalan) is one of those true authentic, old time Barcelona neighborhoods.

The neighborhood was born in 1753 and from its beginnings it hosted fishermen, industry workers as well as employees of the shipyards that were hosted in the port. Up until 1992 the area remained largely untouched, to the point that if you met a local you'd be asked, "are you from the 'hood or from Barcelona?" as if Barcelona was a remote, exotic place.

The Olympic games changed everything and a lot of people started to realize the privileged location of the area. Its quality restaurants and beach destinations are now a massive tourist attraction.

Of course, the surge in tourists has brought great and not so great things (gentrification, rise in rent prices, etc.), but it is still very much a neighborhood to explore. See, it all is in the attitude! At the very beginning of your stay with us we'll give you the necessary tools to try to communicate in basic Catalan (a language that is spoken alongside Spanish)

Why not try to order a cup of coffee at a terrace at the Plaça Baluard in Catalan? Or in Spanish (ok, even English if you're struggling a bit), why not explore the many authentic tapas restaurants or fish eateries of the area? If you're into cycling or skateboarding there are also a ton of places where you can rent a bicycle or a scooter (electric or regular) and have a nice stroll by the beach. There is even a calisthenics park a bit further down the beach where you can workout outdoors. The weather is so benevolent in Barcelona you can do these activities virtually year round!

However you choose to spend your free time in Barcelona, Barceloneta is a must see!
