I’ve never traveled to another country and I didn’t really think I would want to study abroad during college. I’m really involved in student media at Quinnipiac and I didn’t think I could be away from that. However, last year I decided I needed a new adventure and took the steps to apply to study abroad in London.

I chose London because I’ve always wanted to live in a city. When I was applying to colleges in America I applied to a lot of schools in Boston but none of them ended up being the right fit. Last semester I had an internship in New York City and I just about fell in love. There was something about the fast pace that got me hooked.

Quinnipiac is connected to many schools in London, so I had a lot to choose from. I chose the University of Westminster because of its location and after hearing good things from my friend Colleen who studied there last fall.

During the summer I worked, as I have for the past three years, at a sleep-away-camp in Freedom New Hampshire. The job was exhausting but invigorating. The business of my summer kind of made me forget about studying abroad, I put it on hold in my mind. But when I returned home to Rhode Island about three weeks ago I started getting excited.

These past few weeks have been full of errands and checking off things on my to do list. As the time dwindles down and my suitcase has grown in size I can’t help but feel nervous. I find myself Googling a lot of random questions. Like, ‘do people wear baseball hats in London?’, ‘how much does a flight to Italy cost’, and ‘where is the closest market to Marylebone?’.

Luckily I know a lot of people who have studied abroad previously and they are more than happy to answer my nervous questions. All I have left to do is pack my carry on bag and make sure I have everything I need. I can’t wait to touch down in London and start my adventure!
