CARNIVAL 2014!

March 9, 2014Carnival is a period of celebration leading up the Ash Wednesday. It is similar to the festivities of Mardi Gras in the spanish-speaking world. The typical festival is filled with merry participants, intricate floats, and many many different types of disguises. During this time, there are many types of traditional foods for this season, such as los buñuelos and la butifarra.
I went to Carnival in Sitges, a small beach city 30 minutes away from Barcelona by train. It was a lot of fun. I went with my housemates, Jenny, Camila, Hubert, Andrew, and Oscar and I dressed up as a small-clown doll. I didn’t have that much time to find a proper costume because I had flown in from Germany that same afternoon!

El Carnaval es un período de celebración que conduce el Miércoles de Ceniza. Es similar a las festividades del Mardi Gras en el mundo hispanohablante. La fiesta típica está llena de participantes alegre, carrozas intrincadas, y muchos muchos tipos diferentes de disfraces. Durante este tiempo, hay muchos tipos de comidas tradicionales como los buñuelos y la butifarra.
Fui al Carnaval de Sitges, una pequeña ciudad costera a 30 minutos de Barcelona en tren. Fue muy divertido. Fui con mis compañeros de casa, Jenny, Camila, Hubert, Andrew, y Oscar y me vestí como una muñeca pequeña payaso. No tuve mucho tiempo para encontrar un disfraz porque había volado desde Alemania esa misma tarde!
