After studying Philosophy at Stirling University, I completed an MSc in Environmental Sustainability at the University of Edinburgh, before a Ph.D. in Human Geography in which I applied land-rent theory and value-form theory to the political economy of land and the deindustrialisation and redevelopment of Fountainbridge, Edinburgh. I am interested in the often-overlooked aspects of Edinburgh past and present; industry, poverty, and deprivation in a city that is often presented as universally affluent and non-industrial. More broadly, I am interested in political economy, social and economic history, and urban geography. I have taught at the University of Edinburgh and briefly at Ohio University. In my spare time I enjoy making music, though I’m not very good at it, and watching Korean dramas, which I excel at.
