Courses

This program operates under a 1 + 3 course model. You’ll take a full credit load of 16 US credits (24 units): one intensive 4-credit (6-unit) course for 3-4 weeks followed by three 4-credit (6-unit) courses during Semester One.

Please review your courses with your academic or study abroad advisor to ensure they will transfer back to your home school and that you are following your home school’s policies.

• Please be flexible – we can’t guarantee specific courses. If your participation in the program depends on a particular course, be sure to make a note on your online course form.

UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY COURSES

You should include at least 8-10 courses on your Academic Preferences Form.

To select your courses from the University of Sydney:

• Access the Unit of Study Lists
• In the doc in the link above, you will be able to see the Area of Study, when the course is offered, the Unit Code, Unit name, and a link to more information (including the course description and pre-requisites).
• Please be sure you are only selecting courses offered at the undergraduate level that have alternate assessment for the Spring Friendly program. You will need to identify both the intensive term class options and the semester options on your course preferences form.
• More comprehensive course outlines (syllabi) may be available at the Study Portal or on the relevant faculty/department home page.

Special Nomenclature

Course Approval

The University reviews your online preferences form. Either the University of Sydney or your program advisor will email your course approvals to you. This process takes several weeks.

Enrollment Process

You will receive an email from the University of Sydney prompting you to enroll in courses through your student portal. Students can then complete their enrollment tasks and see their timetable prior to arriving in Sydney. Students can also make amendments to enrollment and adjustments to their timetables once arrived in Australia with assistance from the USyd Advisors. Students must be signed up for one intensive course and three regular term courses for full-time enrollment. 

The preliminary preferences form students submit to Arcadia prior to departure does not guarantee approval or enrollment in those courses. There is a drop/add period at the beginning of each semester that allows students to make changes to course enrollments. If you make any changes it is your responsibility to inform your home institution.

Miscellaneous

Possible additional fees for courses that include laboratory work, field excursions or theater trips. Many fine art or production courses will include a supplemental fee.

For architecture, studio art, graphic art, art media production, drama, dancing or music courses, you will need to submit a portfolio or audition tape to support your application. submit a portfolio or audition tape on slides or a CD. Submit between 8-12 examples of your work. Portfolio is non-returnable.
