Arcadia University attempts to make your travel overseas as easy and affordable as possible. All students are responsible for arranging and purchasing their own flights. All students are required to in be attendance for the entirety of their Arcadia orientation, which begins on the posted program arrival date.

Please note: Do not book a flight which connects through the Republic of Ireland. You will not be able to obtain proper immigration clearances if you travel to the United Kingdom through the Republic of Ireland. Failure to secure the proper passport stamp may affect your ability to remain in country for the duration of your time abroad.

Passport and Visa

If you do not have a passport, you must apply for one immediately. Your passport must be valid for six months from the end of your program, otherwise you will need to renew your passport.

All U.S. citizens students will need to enter via the Visitor Route upon entry into the UK. You will receive immigration documents for this process approximately 2 weeks prior to your departure.

Students who do not have a U.S. passport may need to apply for a Short-Term Study Visa in advance. You should work with your Program Advisor if this applies to you. In applicable instances, we will alert you when you need to begin the process of applying for the visa. Arcadia will also provide you with some of the necessary documents. It is important that you do not start applying for your visa until we prompt you.

What to Expect When I Arrive in England?

  • Arcadia will provide you with instructions for how to purchase flights, which will include best practices and guidance on when to arrive to be eligible for airport pickup. This information will be located in the Travel Information section of your Arcadia Portal
  • Before you fly you will be given an Arrival Guide with helpful tips on traveling, details on how to meet the Arcadia staff at the airport, and guidance on what to do if your flight is delayed or changed.
  • The London Center staff will host an exciting orientation on arrival so you can continue to learn about life in London, feel settled in your new surroundings, and create lasting bonds with your classmates.
