Courses

Required course load is 16 semester hours of credit during each semester.

• Please review your courses with your academic or study abroad advisor to ensure they will transfer back to your home school and that you are following your home school’s policies.
• Please be flexible – we can’t guarantee specific courses. If your participation in the program depends on a particular course, be sure to make a note on your online course form.

Special Considerations

In the British education system, students attend university for three years and only enroll in courses directly related to their degree. City may request that you submit syllabi and course descriptions from your previous work to demonstrate that you have satisfied any pre-requisites.

Choosing Your Courses

The courses available to study abroad students are located in the Module Options documents on the City, University of London website.

When selecting courses, it is important to pay attention to course levels:

• First Year (courses beginning with 1---) - Introductory, No background required
• Second Year (courses beginning with 2---) - Sophomore and Junior level. Will need some background, plus satisfy relevant pre-requisites
• Third/Final Year (courses beginning with 3---) - Senior, Advanced. Will need significant prior knowledge (at least 5-6 prior courses in the subject, plus satisfy relevant pre-requisites).  You can only take final year modules if you have a very strong background in the subject.

For Bayes Business School courses, please confirm that "Yes" is listed next to the course title in the column "Study Abroad or Exchange." The Yes indicates the course is open to study abroad students.

Course Restrictions

• Media & Communications and Criminology courses are taught from a sociological perspective.
  
  - 200 level courses - must have a background in Sociology. 
  
  - Study abroad students may not take 300 level courses in Sociology.
• Speech and Language Therapy courses - majors only.
• Journalism - majors only; space is extremely limited.
• Computer Science - space is extremely limited and spaces are highly competitive.
• Mathematics courses are not currently available to study abroad students.

Enrollment Process

You will be pre-approved for courses based on your online course form.

• List 6-8 courses.
• Prior to arrival, your Program Advisor will provide a list of courses for which you’re enrolled.
• Upon receipt, immediately review course timetables and submit course change requests to your Program Advisor.
• During the drop/add period after arrival (for a limited number of departments), is it is your responsibility to inform your home institution of any changes.

Miscellaneous/Fees

Possible additional fees for courses include laboratory work, field excursions or theater trips.
