Courses

This is an intensive program which focuses on practice-based clinical experience as well as high-level academic study. It’s designed for juniors and seniors planning to enter the medical profession, as well as students with a strong academic background in biosciences/related subjects.

• Please review your courses with your academic or study abroad advisor to ensure they will transfer back to your home school and that you are following your home school’s policies.
• Please be flexible – we can’t guarantee specific courses. If your participation in the program depends on a particular course, be sure to make a note on your online course form.

Some courses designated as Level 4 require additional background.

Choosing Your Courses

When applying:

• Select Health & Society program (as opposed to King’s College) and choose 6MMMX100: Health & Society is a mandatory course that will automatically populate on your Academic Preferences Form.
• Please note that one requirement of the application is a letter of reference; as Health and Society is a competitive program, it is important that the reference provided is from a professional academic who has recently taught the applicant in a subject that is relevant to the program.
• Select additional courses from the School of Biomedical Sciences course catalog or the Study Abroad program course catalog.

Please note when choosing courses it is important to pay attention to the levels and prerequisites. King’s will only register you for courses for which you have sufficient background, whether or not there are listed prerequisites.

Level 4 - is a first-year undergraduate module (introductory) - courses at this level are generally open to everyone but some subjects, such as the sciences, Music and Informatics require relevant and sufficient background even at the introductory level.

Level 5 - is a second-year undergraduate course (intermediate) - courses at this level require students to have already taken 3-4+ modules in this subject area at their home institution

Level 6 -  is a final year undergraduate course (advanced) - courses at this level require students to have already taken 6-7+ courses in this subject area at their home institution. You can only take level 6 courses if you are majoring in and have a very strong background in the subject.

Level 7 - this is a postgraduate level course and is not open to study abroad students.

Enrollment Process

• King’s will review and pre-register you in appropriate classes based on your academic preferences form.
• Submit at least 10-course selections for one semester or 12 for the academic year listed in order of preference.
• There is limited course availability after the application deadline.

There will be an add/drop period at the start of the semester. If you make any changes it is your responsibility to inform your home institution.

Health & Society Program Fee

Students in this program are subject to a completely different fee structure. This tuition is charged to all students registered for 6MMMX100 Health & Society.
