Semester Science Research

University College Dublin offers science research opportunities during the semester specifically for study abroad students through attachment to an active research group in the College of Science.

Students will shadow a member of the research team in the laboratory and master one basic and one advanced laboratory skill. Based on the research activity of the research group, students will learn about developing a research hypothesis and designing experiments to test the hypothesis. Using data generated by themselves and/or the group, students will learn how to analyze the research data and, where appropriate, how to determine whether the differences between control and test data are significantly different from each other.

  • This module is designed specifically for Science Study Abroad students only. It will introduce you to the principles of scientific research through attachment to an active research group in the College of Science.
  • You will engage in faculty-supervised, hands-on research that will culminate in the preparation of a research paper at the end of the semester.
  • Faculty mentors will work closely with you to direct your continued growth and knowledge development in the chosen research topic discipline.
  • The Arcadia Dublin Center staff will be on-hand to support you and ensure that you also find time to meet Irish people and enjoy their rich culture, strengthening your understanding of this fascinating country.
  • In order to be considered for this opportunity you will need to indicate your interest on your course preferences form and your Program Advisor will follow up with you about next steps.
