A nation of vast contrasts – socially, economically, politically and culturally, Mexico is the third largest nation in Latin America. As a developing nation which shares a border with the U.S, Mexico offers a unique learning laboratory in which to reflect upon the myriad issues which affect our closest southern neighbors, as well as the U.S. and the citizens of the larger global context. 

From the archaeological riches of the pre-Columbian civilizations, to colonial settlements, to large metropolitan areas, Mexico and its peoples are richly arrayed with history, heritage, cuisine, music, and natural resources. Cuernavaca will be your base in your studies with CGEE, and living in the capital of the state of Morelos in the country’s central region, you’ll be within two hours of Mexico City. The city and its environs are home to just under a million people, and you’ll enjoy its mild climate and its unique position as a locus of grassroots organizations and activity. A long history of struggle for the rights of marginalized peoples and the environment characterize the city’s spirit.  

Your immersion in Mexican culture will begin at orientation and continue through your homestay housing placement, where you will truly become part of a Mexican household and learn about the country and its peoples firsthand. Excursions will round out your dimensional learning experience, fostering capacity and understanding for this extraordinary land.
