Arcadia aims to help students for whom financial assistance can mean the difference between participating on an Arcadia program and staying home. Arcadia scholarships are awarded to eligible applicants based on need.

General Scholarships

In addition to the Arcadia Study Abroad Scholarship, you are encouraged to pursue other scholarship opportunities.

 

THE GOING ABROAD SCHOLARSHIP

Going's mission is to help people travel and experience the world. Since 2017, they've helped young travelers get out there and get going. Twice a year, four outstanding students will win $1,500 scholarships toward their upcoming study abroad program.

Scholarship application deadlines are March 15th and October 15th. Winners will be notified by March 31st for fall study abroad and October 31st for spring study abroad.

 

Benjamin a. Gilman international scholarship

Students receiving a Pell Grant may be eligible for this scholarship, which provides up to $5,000 for any semester abroad, including summer.

 

GILMAN-MCCAIN SCHOLARSHIP

The Gilman-McCain Scholarship provides awards of $5,000 for child dependents of active duty service members to study or intern abroad on credit-bearing programs. More information can be found here.

 

David Larsen Scholarship

Dr. Larsen joined Arcadia in 1988 as vice president and director of the Center for Education Abroad (now the College of Global Studies). He played an integral role in transforming Arcadia University into a leader in international education. Semester study abroad students with financial need and who can demonstrate a “seriousness of purpose” in securing an international education in their field of study are encouraged to consider this scholarship. As part of their mission, Go Overseas firmly believe that more people should have the opportunity to travel in a transformative way. They offer a range of scholarships for study abroad students. You can view current scholarship opportunities on their website.  

 

ACCESS SCHOLARSHIPS: STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS

Access Scholarships is a search tool aiming to connect students with scholarship opportunities, helpful information, and resources. They have highlighted a series of scholarships specifically tailored to students planning to study abroad

 

Goldwater Scholarship

This competitive opportunity seeks students who intend to pursue a research career in the natural sciences, engineering and mathematics. On the Goldwater website, you will find more information on eligibility requirements. Students interested in applying should contact the Goldwater representative on their home campus to inquire about the nomination process

Scholarships are not specifically for study abroad, but awards can be used for students studying overseas. 

 

PHI KAPPA PHI STUDY ABROAD GRANTS

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Seventy-five $1,000 grants are awarded each year.

Applicants do not have to be Society members but must attend an institution with an active Phi Kappa Phi chapter. You can view this list to see if your institution has a chapter.

 

UMN SCHOLARSHIP DATABASE

The University of Minnesota maintains an extensive database of available study abroad funding and scholarship offerings.  This is a great resource to search for funding opportunities.

 


Summer

ARCADIA SUMMER SCHOLARSHIPS

Arcadia scholarships are awarded to eligible applicants based on need. Summer scholarship awards range between $250-1,000 with an average award of $700. Complete the Arcadia Scholarship Application to apply. Students complete the top portion; a representative from the Financial Aid Office at Arcadia should complete the remainder.

Students receiving a Pell Grant may be eligible for this scholarship, which provides up to $5,000 for any semester abroad, including summer.

VIRA I. HEINZ PROGRAM FOR WOMEN, NON-BINARY & TRANSGENDER GLOBAL LEADERS

The Vira I. Heinz (VIH) Program for Women, Non-Binary, and Transgender Global Leaders prepares scholars for tomorrow's global challenges by offering a unique opportunity for global experiences, leadership development, and community service. Three first-time scholars are admitted into the program and receive a scholarship of at least $5,000 to put toward the cost of a summer global experience of their choosing. To apply, contact Ms. Kay Greene, Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Success. This scholarship is for enrolled Arcadia University students.

 


Diversity Scholarships

 

Fund for Education Abroad Scholarship

The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) offers scholarships to students studying abroad. The foundation has a strong preference for, but is not limited to, students studying a foreign language, participating in an academically rigorous program, attending in a non-traditional destination, and/or representing an under-represented group for education abroad, such as a minority or a community college student.

 

BEGIRL WORLD SCHOLARSHIPS

beGirl.world is seeking to diversify and change the face of study abroad by offering two scholarships worth $2,000 for black female college students. The two scholarship types are as follows:

  • Philly Scholar  – This scholarship is for one black female college student who is from Philadelphia and is enrolled at an accredited Philadelphia college or university.
  • National Scholar – This scholarship is for one black female college student who is enrolled at an accredited college or university in the United States of America, Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands. 

 

Rainbow SIG - Rainbow Scholarship

This scholarship awards deserving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) students who aim to participate in high-quality, rigorous education abroad programs.  Awards are up to $10,000.

 


 

STEM Scholarships

MARIE-LOUSIE AND EUGENE JACKSON INTERNATIONAL FUND

The Marie-Louise and Eugene Jackson International Fund was established by Arcadia alumna Susan Jackson Tressider '84 and '90M to honor her late parents Marie-Louise '09H and Eugene W. Jackson'90H who devoted many years of service to the University. The purpose of the fund is to support internationally focused experiences in the sciences. UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY SYDNEY STUDY ABROAD EXCELLENCE AWARD

Students with financial need are encouraged to apply for this scholarship opportunity through the University of Technology, Sydney. Awards are usually AUD$2,000.  To apply, please contact your Program Advisor.

AASP/UK Lord Acton Memorial Scholarship

This merit-based scholarship is offered to students studying abroad in the United Kingdom for a semester or year. Eligible students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the value of international education.

 

BUTEX NORTH AMERICAN SCHOLARSHIPS (UNITED KINGDOM)

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you must be studying abroad in the United Kingdom for a semester or year at a BUTEX affiliated institution. Each scholarship is worth £500 and will be paid once the recipient has arrived and registered at their host university.

 

SOCIETY OF ST. GEORGE SCHOLARSHIP

The Society of St. George provides this funding opportunity for students from the Philadelphia area participating on an Arcadia program in England.  Eligible students must, have English ancestry, financial need and be from the Philadelphia area (usually one of the adjacent counties in Pennsylvania, New Jersey or Delaware).

 


Ireland

 

SOCIETY OF THE FRIENDLY SONS OF ST. PATRICK

Since its inception in Philadelphia in 1771, the Society of The Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick has been an active, vibrant organization within the Irish community. The Society exists to promote Irish culture, education and provide aid. Students from the Delaware Valley Region enrolled at Arcadia University and studying in Ireland are eligible. Italy

 

ORDER SONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA SCHOLARSHIP

The Italian Language Scholarship is offered to American citizens of Italian descent, in their junior or senior year of undergraduate study, majoring or minoring in Italian language studies. This award is not specifically for study abroad, but it can be used for study abroad. 

 


New Zealand

 

Education New Zealand - Generation Study Abroad Awards

New Zealand Education offers two scholarship opportunities to help Arcadia students fund their study abroad experience.

  • Education New Zealand Study Abroad Travel Awards (ENZTA)
    • Provides a flight scholarship of $2,000
  • New Zealand Universities Excellence Awards (NZUEA)
    • Provides a general scholarship of $500

Scotland

BOREN SCHOLARSHIP

An initiative of the National Security Education Program, Boren Scholarships are awarded with preference for countries, languages, and fields of study critical to U.S. national security. Preference is also given to students who will study abroad for longer periods of time, and who are highly motivated by the opportunity to work in the federal government.

 


South Korea & Japan

 

Freeman asia scholarship

Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.

 


Scholarships from Commercial Organizations

The following scholarships are offered by commercial organizations.  These scholarships are usually open to full-time, undergraduate students who will be studying abroad.  Generally, you will need to submit an essay on a travel-related topic and you must be over the age of 18 and a citizen or permanent resident of the United States to be eligible.
